 Enabling Environments             Learning and Development

We encourage all our parents to follow their children’s learning at nursery by obtaining a copy of the Early Years Foundation Stage; to download a copy please follow the link below:

This way you will be able to see which stage of development your child is currently in and by following our focus observation at nursery you will be able to reinforce their learning at home.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is divided into six different areas of learning:

  • Communication, Language and Literacy –  Children’s learning and competence in communicating, speaking and listening, being read to and beginning to read and write. We provide opportunities and encouragement for children to use their skills in a range of situations and for a range of purposes.
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World – Children are supported in developing their knowledge, skills and understanding to help them make sense of the world. Their learning is supported by being given opportunities to use a range of tools safely; encounter creatures, people, plants and objects in their natural environments and in real life situations; undertake practical ‘experiments’; and work with a range of materials.
  • Physical Development – Children are given opportunities to be active and interactive in improving their skills of coordination, control, manipulation and movement. We support children to use all their senses to learn about the world around them and to make connections between new information and what they already know. We support children in their development of understanding of the importance of physical activity and making healthy choices in relation to food.
  • Creative Development  – Children’s creativity is extended by being supported for their curiosity, exploration and play. We provide children with opportunities to explore and share their thoughts, ideas and feelings by various different means such as; art, music, movement, dance, imaginative and role-play activities, mathematics and design technology.
